SBA announces Lower Valley winners for National Small Business Week.

The U.S. Small Business Administration's Lower Rio Grande Valley District Office has named its award winners for National Small Business Week. National Small Business Week runs May 3–9 and was established in 1963. The district office is based in Harlingen and covers 14 counties. The winners will be honored at a district ceremony on May 6 in Weslaco.
Winners and awards:
- Blanca Elina Perez of Amor Eterno Provider Services in Brownsville was named Small Business Person of the Year, and David G. Navarro of Soil Tech Advance Inc. in McAllen received the Blue Collar Small Business of the Year award.
- Dr. Edward and Velma Borchard of Robstown Tots and Teens Pediatrics in Robstown were named Rural-Owned Small Business of the Year, and Randi Laine Hamlyn of Indigo Laine & Co. in Sinton was named Small Business Manufacturer of the Year.
- District Director Awards included Luis C. Castro (TXQ Rubs, Brownsville) as Home-Based Small Business of the Year; Erica Marie Ortega (Heavenly Angels Christian Daycare, Harlingen) as Family-Owned Small Business of the Year; and Gilbert Morin Perez (Fresh Coat Painters, McAllen) as Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year.
- Additional district honorees are Lorena Montiel of 956 Coffee LLC in Brownsville for Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Angelica M. Cardoza of Dance Time LLC in Weslaco.
- The district received a record 42 nominations across 10 categories, and the awards ceremony will be held May 6 at the Knapp Conference Center in Weslaco, hosted by the Rio Grande Valley Partnership.
