The Paradise Animal Shelter hosted a grand opening on April 4 for a renovated and expanded facility that began construction after breaking ground in August 2024. The project added about 1,900 square feet and updated the original 1985 building to improve dog housing and storage. The remodel introduced separate cat rooms, new administrative offices, and spaces for treatment and socialization. Animal Control Supervisor Mollie St. John described the changes as giving staff more room to care for animals and separate sick from healthy animals.
Key details:
- The expansion added modern accommodations for cats and treatment/socialization spaces.
- Cat capacity increased from four kennels to space for up to 30 cats; 17 cats were reported as currently housed.
- The shelter retains 21 dog kennels and added quarantine rooms and options for smaller-dog housing.
- Funding exceeded $1 million, provided by the Town of Paradise, the Measure B committee, Paradise Animal Shelter Helpers (PASH), and community contributions.
- The grand opening event ran from noon to 3 p.m. at 925 American Way in Paradise.
Summary:
The remodel increases the shelter’s ability to house and treat animals and provides separate spaces for medical care and socialization, which staff say helps animals show more of their personalities. Undetermined at this time.
