Balance Brewing held a soft opening on March 19 in Ross, occupying the space that previously housed Necromancer Brewing. The venture is led by three partners: Rob Houston (co-founder and operations), brewer Matt Gibb, and Drew Smith (finance). The team expanded the taproom to roughly 3,400 square feet and installed a seven-barrel brewhouse with room to grow production. The owners say their approach emphasizes work-life balance for staff as part of the brewery’s philosophy.
Key details:
- Location is on Babcock Boulevard near McKnight Road in Ross, in the building that formerly housed Necromancer Brewing and originally was built for USA Baby.
- Balance Brewing had a soft opening on March 19; a grand opening is planned for sometime this spring.
- The taproom was enlarged to about 3,400 square feet and the production starts with a seven-barrel brewhouse capable of up to 1,000 barrels per year.
- The tap lineup includes nine taps; the signature house lager is sold on-site for $5 per 16-ounce pour, and the venue offers cocktails, wine, canned seltzers and nonalcoholic Barmy sodas.
- The venue does not have a kitchen; food will be provided by rotating food trucks (starting Fridays, Saturdays, and select other days) and an unfinished room is planned to become an event space by fall.
- Staff currently includes a full-time taproom manager, a full-time bartender and six part-time bartenders.
Summary:
Balance Brewing’s opening repurposes the former Necromancer site into a larger community-focused taproom with in-house brewing capacity and a varied beverage menu. Planned developments include a grand opening this spring and converting an unfinished room into an event space by fall.
