Craven Arts Council plans April events

The Craven Arts Council and Gallery at the Bank of the Arts in New Bern will refresh works in its main and director's galleries and support several public events in April. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with ArtWalk hours every second Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission to the galleries is free. The council is presenting exhibitions, hands-on activities and screenings to engage the community and local organizations.
Events and programming:
- The Bank of the Arts is located at 317 Middle St. in New Bern and is open Tuesday–Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., with ArtWalk hours on the second Friday of each month; admission is free.
- A community paint day will be held April 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with murals outlined in advance on the Broad Street side of the Chelsea (335 Middle St.) and on the back porch of the Flying Fox (411 Broad St.); supplies will be provided and participants must sign a waiver.
- Sponsorships for the Art in Public Places mural program are being accepted, with sponsorships reported to start at $50.
- A free film screening about Percy Berry, created by local filmmaker Francine Robinson, will be presented April 12 at 2 p.m. at New Beginnings Ministry of Faith in Havelock; the screening will be followed by a panel that includes coalition members and a descendant of Percy Berry, and the film reports on Berry’s 1932 death in Hancock Creek.
- The Coastal Carolina Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind will host activities during ArtWalk on April 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on April 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bank of the Arts, including informational displays, Braille demonstrations and a white cane obstacle course described as hands-on learning opportunities.
- Exhibits in April include the Rat Selfie Series by Jennifer WinterRose in the director's gallery and the Twin Rivers Artists Association and Craven Community College Judged Exhibition in the main gallery; open receptions are scheduled during ArtWalk on April 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
