Content
Several free exhibitions in the Dayton region are running through April at a mix of campus, museum, gallery and community venues. The shows feature a range of media, from intimate assemblages and watercolor landscape diaries to nature and street photography. Some exhibits are limited-run and a few special events are scheduled during the month.
Open exhibitions:
- University of Dayton INDEX Gallery at The Hub is showing new work by Ashley Jude Jonas. The assemblages combine photographs, porcelain ceramics and personal ephemera; one display includes preserved bodily mementos referenced as a form of remembrance. The gallery is at 31 S Main, with weekday hours and Friday hours noted by the venue.
- Edward A. Dixon Gallery is presenting a posthumous nature photography exhibit by Brother John Lemker through April 12. Lemker’s work grew from geological field study and is described as inspiring prayer and contemplative reflection. The exhibit runs on select days through April 12.
- The Dayton Art Institute has "Tony Foster, Exploring Time: A Painter's Perspective" on view through May 17. Foster’s watercolors document changing landscapes and human impact over time. The DAI will partner with The Neon for a screening of the documentary "Tony Foster: Painting at the Edge" on April 15.
- Dayton Society of Artists is showing photographer Edd McGatha’s work through April 3. McGatha completed a picture-a-day project in 2024 with images from Tipp City, Dayton and New York City; the show is available on scheduled days and by appointment.
- Stivers School for the Arts will host a one-night photography fundraiser on April 17 featuring 150–200 donated prints from a range of photographers and portrait work noted in the program; the event is organized by the school’s photographic studies program.
