Augusta National Golf Club led an extensive renovation of the 98-year-old Augusta Municipal Golf Course, long known locally as The Patch, and the site reopened on a limited basis this week. The project added a nine-hole par-3 short course designed by Tiger Woods' TGR Design, a new practice facility, and a clubhouse with a new entrance at Wrightsboro Road and Damascus Road. The Patch Project LLC, a partnership of Augusta Technical College, The First Tee of Augusta and Masters Tournament Charities, guided plans to expand playing and work opportunities. Operation of the course is handled by Bobby Jones Links under a long-term lease arrangement.
Key details:
- The course reopened on a limited basis nearly 14 months after Augusta National became the new lessee; renovation work began March 24, 2025.
- Restoration and redesign work was completed by architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling, and the short course was designed by Tiger Woods' TGR Design.
- The Patch Project LLC brings together Augusta Technical College, The First Tee of Augusta and Masters Tournament Charities to support community play and employment.
- Local resident walking rates for 18 holes were announced at $25 Monday–Thursday and $35 Friday–Sunday, with other junior and senior discounts; non-resident rates are higher ($85–$95 reported).
- The course will be operated by Bobby Jones Links; Augusta National holds a lease reported as $1 per year for up to 50 years.
- The Patch has historical significance as the first Augusta course to allow Black players (1964); Clois Herndon, the last living member of that group, attended the reopening and the site includes honors for Jim Dent.
Summary:
The renovation represents a long-term commitment to restoring a neighborhood golf resource and keeping community access central to its plans. Play is open first to local groups and regular players, with private hospitality during Masters week and a full public reopening scheduled for April 15, with tee times to be available in advance.
