Construction has resumed on a new Animal Wellness Clinic next to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley in Howes Cave. The clinic is being built to provide vaccinations, spaying and neutering, and general wellness care for dogs and cats. It will offer support to qualified Schoharie County residents to help access more affordable care. The project aims to improve animal health across the region and reduce the population of stray animals.
Current construction and funding:
- Installation of in-floor heating is complete and the concrete foundation has been finished.
- Framing of interior walls is scheduled to begin next week, with plumbing and electrical work to follow.
- Work is expected to be complete by the fall, and the facility will open to the community soon after.
- Funding comes from a donation by community member Nicholas Juried and a New York State Companion Animal Capital Projects grant from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
- The shelter is located at 304 Howes Cave Road in Howes Cave.
