A young stray cat spent hours near the top of an approximately 70-foot tree above a busy road in Greenfield before being brought down on Dec. 23. A Good Samaritan alerted homeowner Scott Borah, who posted photos and asked the community for ideas. Contractor Kelly Crockett responded that night with a bucket truck and reached the cat in very dark, difficult conditions. The Borah family sheltered and fed the animal while they sought an owner or adopter.
Rescue and response:
- A Good Samaritan told Borah she had seen the cat in the tree and pointed out its location above County Road 100 North.
- Borah posted images on social media and received many responses; he contacted Kelly Crockett, a tree contractor who has rescued cats before, to use a bucket truck for the nighttime rescue.
- A video shared online captures Crockett retrieving the cat and calling down, "I've got him," as people cheered; Crockett said the cat was very scared but held with two hands.
- The Borah family kept the cat in their garage, fed him, checked for an owner and had his microchip scanned, which showed no chip.
- Amiah Melton of Pendleton responded to the local Facebook posts, adopted the cat, named him King Julien, and reported that he had a first veterinary appointment and is gradually adjusting with her other cats, especially an orange tabby named Calvin.
Summary:
The rescue brought the cat down safely and prompted community interest that led to adoption by a Pendleton resident. King Julien received a veterinary check and is slowly settling into his new home with other cats. The Borah family said they hoped the story might inspire others by showing how the community responded.
