The Wake County Animal Center in Raleigh will be closed for repairs and maintenance beginning Friday, Jan. 16 and continuing through March 2. County officials said the closure is intended to allow necessary work that supports the safety and well-being of animals in care. During the closure the shelter building will be closed to the public and normal intake and adoption operations will be paused. County staff and animal control personnel will remain active in other ways while repairs proceed.
Current details:
- Closure dates are Jan. 16 through March 2 at the facility on 820 Beacon Lake Drive.
- The shelter will not take in or adopt out new animals while repairs are underway and the building will be closed to the public.
- Animal control services will remain operational and staff will continue to answer phones and emails, but animals will not be picked up, including strays.
- Foster animals will still be available for adoption through the shelters online gallery.
- Many dogs currently at the shelter will be moved to off-site boarding facilities during repairs and are expected to return before the shelter reopens.
