Cruden Partnership Ltd submitted an application on February 11 to develop a flatted residential scheme of 30 units at 6 Moredun Park View. The site is the former Moredun Community Centre, which closed in February 2024 and was later demolished. The proposed block would be arranged in three sections of four storeys, three storeys and one storey. Cruden says the scheme would be 100 per cent social rent and is working with Hillcrest Housing Association on the unit mix.
Key details:
- 30 units proposed: nine one-bedroom, 14 two-bedroom and seven three-bedroom flats.
- Tenure proposed as 100 per cent social rent, with Hillcrest Housing Association involved in shaping the mix.
- Parking and sustainable transport: four standard bays and three accessible bays, with EV charging provision planned for all parking spaces and a bike store for 58 bikes.
- Site layout and design: stepped building heights to respond to neighbouring properties, use of buff-colour facing brick and a central area of green open space providing a landscape buffer.
- Waste and servicing: a recycling and refuse store is included on site.
- Public engagement and process: a January consultation at Gilmerton Community Centre attracted 13 attendees and 11 written feedback submissions; the council's planning department will now decide the application and there are no public comments on the online planning portal so far.
Summary:
The proposal would regenerate a vacant brownfield site into 30 social-rent flats with new landscaped open space and facilities for cycling and waste. Design materials note stepped massing and reduced heights facing Moredun Park View to align with nearby homes. The council's planning department will determine the outcome of the application.
