Content
An outline planning application has been submitted to Calderdale Council to build 30 homes on a vacant site in Wheatley, Halifax. The land on Maltings Road was once home to the Fountain Head Brewery, which closed in 1996. Parts of the wider site are already developed with housing, a nursery, a school, a community centre and a college, but the application area remains vacant. The application was lodged by Begbies Traynor on behalf of Southdale Ltd and is supported by a statement from property consultants JLL.
Key details:
- Thirty homes are proposed for the vacant plot on Maltings Road in Wheatley, Halifax.
- The submission is an outline application intended to enable the site to be marketed and disposed of by the administrators.
- All matters are reserved except access, which is proposed from Maltings Road.
- JLL’s supporting statement says the site could deliver a variety and mix of housing and that six homes are anticipated to be classed as affordable.
- JLL reports the site is partly greenfield and partly brownfield and notes the surrounding character is now residential.
- The plans have attracted objections mainly over access because Maltings Road is a public bridleway used by horse riders and cyclists.
Summary:
If outline consent is granted, the administrators intend to market and dispose of the site and a more detailed planning application would follow. No date has been set for the council to consider the application, so the timing of any decision is undetermined at this time.
