The Prince Albert Northern Bears will take the ice this weekend in purple-and-blue third jerseys that reflect the colours of the Prince Albert YWCA. The change is part of a fundraiser supporting the YWCA's Rendalyn Home. Board member Al Dyer said the YWCA has been a long-standing partner and the team wanted a community-focused project. Players helped design the jerseys, which include special Rendalyn Home trim.
Key details:
- The Bears will wear the third jerseys for a two-game series against the Saskatoon Stars at the Art Hauser Centre, with games at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
- All 20 jerseys will be auctioned, with bidding opened online on Feb. 3 and running through Feb. 8; the jerseys are scheduled to be auctioned off after the second game on Sunday.
- Proceeds are designated for Rendalyn Home; as of press time the project is guaranteed to raise more than $2,700 and the goal is $4,000.
- The Bears team is composed of players aged about 15–18, and Rendalyn Home provides a supportive residence for youths aged 16–21 who are expecting a child or have children and are involved with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services; referrals and admissions are managed through that ministry and depend on suitability and room availability.
Summary:
The jersey project is intended to raise funds and visibility for Rendalyn Home while highlighting an existing partnership between the Bears and the YWCA. Bidding continues online through Feb. 8 and the jerseys will be auctioned after the Sunday game; the Bears face the Saskatoon Stars at 1:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
